Wood Street Doula

Hi, I’m Hannah. I’m a postpartum doula in East London, and I’m also in training to be a birth doula and breastfeeding supporter.

I’m a solo mum by choice, with two boys born in 2020 and 2025. I’ve experienced pregnancy and birth at two different London hospitals and have an extensive knowledge of support services, baby groups and the best playgrounds in and around E17!

Ok – but what is a postpartum doula?

Back in the day – and still today in many cultures & places that are less hyper individualist, capitalist & isolated than this one – a family with a new baby would be surrounded by care & support from their community, particularly from mothers, midwives & wise women who would take care of the new mother/birthing parent.

Here & now we often live far away from our extended families. Our own parents may be aging or still working full-time. Our friends are busy trying to balance their own caring responsibilities with jobs, cost of living, mental load, overwhelm. NHS support can be overstretched and minimal. Some of our families and healthcare workers were taught ways of parenting and caring for newborn babies that just don’t feel right to us.

As your doula, I can:

  • bring nourishing & tasty snacks, make tea, prep food
  • do light housework (laundry, tidying, dishes)
  • give advice & support for breastfeeding
  • listen to your birth story
  • hold the baby so you can have a nap, shower, exercise, or eat a meal with both hands while it’s still hot
  • offer support & education on caring for a newborn baby
  • help care for other children in the home
  • support you emotionally, helping you to feel held and cared for
  • support you in seeking medical care or referral to other services, if needed
  • help you grow into the parent you want to be (while reassuring you that you’re doing a wonderful job already)
